Nicola Ray, a mother of two daughters, disappeared without trace following a night out with friends in the early hours of May 2, 2000. This incident happened when she had been out for the night with friends in Basildon, Essex, drinking at the Moon on the Square pub, and had gone back to a friend’s house in Devlins, Felmores. After leaving her friend’s house in the early hours of the morning she was never seen again.

Nicola was 30 years old when she disappeared and was last when she left her friend, 43-year-old Lorretta Kenny’s home in the early hours of the morning to walk home. Nicola had done this on a number of occasions but this time she never made it home.

It is not clear who reported Nicola Ray missing but we do know that several searches of the home where she lived with her children and her partner Timothy Barnes. Nothing untoward was found and despite Mr Barnes being arrested twice in connection with the disappearance Nicola has never been found.

Curiously, there were clothes missing from Nicola’s home when it was searched but there is no evidence or reason to suggest that she ran away or committed suicide and of course, there is no sign of a body or remains.

Mr Barnes was arrested on two occasions and the police did a massive dig as well as using ground penetrating radar in the search for Nicola but found nothing. Eventually, after spending a considerable length of time on bail the police cancelled his bail and released him without charge.

Nicola had two daughters who were aged 7 and 11 at the time sadly never heard from their mum again, they are adults now of course but still yearn for the information as to what happened to their mother.

Nicola’s friend Loretta Kenny told the media after the disappearance, “I have prayed that every knock on my door and every telephone call I have received since then is Nicola calling to say she is all right”.

“But as the months have passed, my hope has faded of ever seeing her again. It is really awful to think she might be lying dead somewhere”.

She added: “She loved her kids and it would take something serious for her not to contact them”.

I personally think that there is something quite dark in this case and it is far from a simple missing person case. I do believe that Nicola Ray was probably murdered and her body buried or weighted down in a river, Nonetheless, there is a family out there that needs to know what happened.

I will leave it there but I will be making some enquiries behind the scenes and if I come up with anything further I will of course report back.
